Ecotox and bees: on the agenda at SETAC

by Agnès Rortais 07.11.16

Assessing the impact of combinations of environmental pressures on bees at the population and landscape level is complex and challenging, but an important meeting in Brussels next year could help to further our knowledge of this crucial issue.

“New developments in ecotoxicology for the risk assessment of multiple stressors in insect pollinators: from the laboratory to the real world” is one of the sessions at the annual meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). As its title suggests, the session is of direct relevance to the work we are doing here at EFSA with our MUST-B project. It will consider, among other things, laboratory studies dealing with the integration of mixture toxicity data, Dynamic Energy Budget models and modelling developments at colony and landscape levels.

You can find more information on the session here. For more information on registering for the meeting – which will run from 7-11 May 2017 – and submitting an abstract please visit the SETAC 2017 website. Registration opens in January; the deadline for submitting abstracts is 23 November 2016.

And if you’ve never heard of SETAC, it’s a not-for-profit organisation that promotes multidisciplinary approaches to examining the impact of stressors, chemicals, and technology on the environment.

See you in Brussels!

Agnès Rortais is a bee specialist at EFSA.
